Welcome to Shoshin, my journal of lessons from this journey we call "life".
Perspective
" Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. "
- Mark Twain
Story
Most people don’t regret failing. They regret never trying.
Think about it. The times you failed, nurtured your character.
After speaking to adults from all walks of life, and one theme keeps coming up:
They wished they had traveled more, taken more risks, and truly lived.
I enjoy listening and they enjoy speaking on adventures they went through, the story of how they grew; not the mundane.
Yesterday, I went on a general aviation flight for the first time.
Today, I went trash bagging with friends
(the act of stupidly sliding down a wet hill with a soapy trash bag on your body)
Except—there was no rain
So we made do. No excuses, no second thoughts. Just a group of ridiculously dressed idiots diving down rough terrain like crackheads. We didn't care what other people thought. We were content with ourselves and our bond.
My body is scarred, as if a pokemon used “Leaf Storm” on me.
However, I have no regrets, just grateful for the memories we’ve made.
Ascend
I could have stayed inside.
I could have played it safe.
My best memories never came from my comfort zone, they come from the moments where I said ‘why not?’
So why not you?
Remember, its who you become on the journey.
Others.
