Welcome to Shoshin, my journal of lessons from this journey we call "life".
Perspective
"Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another"
- Proverbs 27:17
Story
When I first heard this quote a few years ago, it didn’t hit.
Back then, my friends and I were too comfortable.
Spending most of our time gaming, and discussing frivolous topics, we never pushed each other to grow.
The idea of “sharpening” one another didn’t exist in our world.
Then something changed.
I got into bouldering and invited my friends to climb with me.
Unbeknownst to me, this was the start of something new.
One day, I found myself stuck on a route.
Six failed attempts. Discouraged and Frustrated. I wanted to leave.
Then my friends pushed me by saying “WE END ON A WIN”.
They gave me pointers, hyped me up, even threatened to brush my teeth with the rock cleaner if I didn’t finish it.
After one last attempt, channeling their energy, I made it.
Then one of them, inspired by what just happened, crushed his route too.
That moment stuck with me. It wasn’t about the climb—it was about the bond.
It was iron sharpening iron in real time.
Ascend
There are two types of people in this world:
Those who drain you, and those who elevate you.
Growth happens in the presence of the latter—the ones who challenge your comfort, believe in your potential, and push you beyond it.
This week, take a look around.
Who sharpens you?
Who do you sharpen in return?
Remember, its who you become on the journey.
Others.
